Description from the seller
ONLY ONE EXISTS IN THE WORLD - EDITION 1/1
With this vertical-format artwork, Medsan has the silhouette of a woman in a kimono, seen from behind with a chignon pierced by kanzashi, engage in dialogue with a terraced rice paddy landscape at dusk. The composition reprises the principle of photographic double exposure and transpose it into the vocabulary of sumi-e and Japanese watercolor. The heritage of ukiyo-e is recognizable here — Utamaro’s bijin-ga for the figure of the woman seen from behind, Hiroshige’s landscapes for the hills and the thatched-roof minka farm. The red cartouche メドサン, placed at the bottom right like a traditional hanko seal, signs the work in the manner of old prints.
The treatment combines Chinese ink wash and watercolor on a background of washi paper speckled with fibers and pinpricks. The sleeves and hem of the kimono are laid down in heavily charged black ink, with drips and splashes left visible, while the body of the garment becomes a translucent window where pigment dilutes into salmon pinks, ochres, and moss greens. The perspective of the dikes winds from the real ground of the image to the inside of the fabric, erasing the boundary between the character and the decor. The tufts of grasses in the foreground, brushed with a dry gesture, anchor the scene and echo the spontaneity of the zen line.
The mashup speaks a simple and powerful truth: we carry the land we come from. The woman moves away along the path, and the homeland — the rice fields, the house, the evening sky — literally occupies the place of her body. It is a meditation on memory, belonging, and furusato, that homeland village in Japanese culture charged with gentle nostalgia.
A contemplative and graphic piece, ideal for bringing a poetic and Japan-inspired touch to an interior of a collector sensitive to prints, to the art of ink wash, and to narrative compositions.

About the Atelier:
Atelier Joconde is a collective of artists united around a vibrant and plural contemporary creation. Established as a true site of artistic production, the studio functions both as a collective creation space and through individual approaches, depending on projects and works. Atelier Joconde is also a family venture. Le Yack, a contemporary figurative painter, develops a narrative and introspective body of work with cinematic and realistic influences. Alongside him, Medsan pursues a pop art-oriented painting, exploring color, modern iconography, and visual culture. Finally, Neo Pablo engages in a more instinctive research, blending abstract art, outsider art, and figurative abstraction. Each work is conceived, created, and followed within the workshop, with a shared artistic standard and an identity of its own for each artist.
