Description from the seller
ONLY ONE IN THE WORLD - EDITION 1/1
With this square-format artwork, Medsan lifts the Seine aboard the Thousand Sunny, the Straw Hat Pirates ship in Eiichiro Oda's One Piece. The solar lion figurehead, the Jolly Roger-hatted sail and the black pennants stand out against a Parisian twilight where the Eiffel Tower glitters with its golden lights. The Pont Alexandre III, its lampposts and golden bronze winged horses frame the scene, while Haussmannian windows light up one by one.
The treatment plays with the contrast between two painting regimes. The setting is worked in oil with thick strokes and visible impasto: the violet-orange sky is brushed in broad sweeps, the gold reflections on the water are laid down in short, paste-like commas that recall the Seine’s nocturnes in Impressionism. The ship, for its part, retains its flat, net color blocks, its black outlines and its original red-white-yellow palette, like an animation vignette pasted into a landscape painting. This deliberate rupture of facture is the heart of the device.
In the vein of the series “Arcade in Real Life,” the icon leaves its fictional universe to sail in a perfectly banal place: an urban river, a weekday evening, between two bridges. The displacement produces a particular tenderness — the ship of dreams of freedom ends up crossing tour boats, and the promise of the Grand Line suddenly measures itself against the scale of a postcard. The work speaks of adventure brought into daily life, and of what becomes of childhood imagination when you let it dock.
A luminous and narrative piece, ideal for adding a pop and romantic touch to a contemporary interior, for a collector attached to mashups between manga culture and landscape painting.

About the Studio:
Atelier Joconde is a collective of artists gathered around a living, plural contemporary creation. Established as a real center of artistic production, the studio operates both in collective creation and in individual approaches, depending on projects and works. Atelier Joconde is also a family venture. Le Yack, a contemporary figurative painter, develops a narrative and introspective body of work with cinematic and realist influences. By his side, Medsan, oriented toward pop art painting, explores color, modern iconography and visual culture. Finally, Neo Pablo engages in a more instinctive research, blending abstract art, brut art, and figurative abstraction. Each work is designed, created and followed within the studio, with a shared artistic standard and an identity unique to each artist.
