Description from the seller
IT EXISTS ONLY ONE IN THE WORLD - EDITION 1/1
With this square-format artwork, Medsan brings an Air Jordan 1 High into the stormy sky of Vincent van Gogh's Starry Night, painted in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence in 1889. The silhouette of the Nike sneaker, with the “Air Jordan” wings logo and the Swoosh, floats above the Provençal village, including the pointed steeple and cypress. Two mythologies meet: the most reproduced post-impressionism in the world and the absolute icon of sneaker culture born in 1985.
The treatment is an intensely impasto oil, where every brushstroke remains legible in relief: concentric swirls of the sky, spirals of the nebula, the yellow halo of the moon crescent rendered in thick layers. Medsan applies the van Gogh grammar directly to the shoe — the leather becomes swirling matter, the eyelets read as spots of pure color, the sole unfolds a cream and Naples yellow ribbon. The palette stays faithful to the model: ultramarine, cobalt blue, Prussian blue for the contours, zinc white and solar yellows as accents. The ascending diagonal composition launches the sneaker from the sleeping village, while the cartouche メドサン, the artist’s signature in Katakana, stands clearly on the right-hand hills.
The mashup speaks to how our icons replace one another. Where Van Gogh painted infinity and insomnia, Medsan places a contemporary object of desire, a manufactured product turned collectible relic, displayed in a storefront like a master painting. The sneaker suspended in the sky becomes a star in its own right: an ironic and tender reminder that every era hangs its dreams on what it venerates.
A powerful piece, immediately legible, ideal for adding a pop and post-impressionist touch to a contemporary interior, urban loft, or collector’s office passionate about sneaker culture and art history.

About the Studio:
Atelier Joconde is a studio of artists gathered around contemporary living and plural creation. Established as a true artistic production space, the studio operates both in collective creation and in individual approaches, depending on the projects and works. Atelier Joconde is also a family venture. Le Yack, a contemporary figurative painter, develops a narrative and introspective body of work with cinematic and realistic influences. Beside him, Medsan, oriented toward pop art painting, explores color, modern iconography, and visual culture. Finally, Neo Pablo engages in a more instinctive inquiry, blending abstract art, naive art, and figurative abstraction. Each work is conceived, created, and followed within the studio, with a shared artistic standard and a unique identity for each artist.
