S. Giuffrida (XX) - Ecce Homo

Oil on panel painting from the mid-20th century, signed bottom right "S. Giuffrida". The work offers a moving depiction of the Ecce Homo, centered on the suffering face of Christ during the Passion. The composition is dominated by intense expressive drama: the supplicant gaze raised upward, the mouth opened in pain, the drops of blood streaking the forehead, and the crown of thorns finely interwoven among the hair. The brushwork is rich and composite, with a skilful play of light and shade and warm tones that give relief and pathos to the figure. Analysis of the frame and conservation state (to be restored): The work is set in an exuberant period frame in carved wood, pierced and gilded in mecca gold with volute motifs and foliate elements inspired by the Baroque. Painting: In generally good conservation condition, with a stable pictorial surface and colors well preserved. Frame: Visibly damaged and in need of restoration. It shows evident structural cracks at the corners, widespread chipping, breaks in the pierced wood, and marked losses of gilding and the preparatory stucco (as shown in the close-up photographs).
