Oval wall mirror with a brass frame, dating to around 1950–1970 and made in France.

AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Oval faceted-cut wall mirror with brass/bronze ornament – mascaron – circa 1950–1970

Description

Elegant oval wall mirror with a decorative metal frame and richly worked ornaments on the top and bottom.

The top ornament is crowned by a classical female mascaron, surrounded by graceful Rococo/Baroque curls and foliate motifs. At the bottom there is a similarly open-work Rocaille decorative piece. The combination with the oval shape gives the mirror a distinctly French-inspired Louis XV/Rococo revival appearance.

The backside is fitted with a later or functional cover plate. Based on construction, backside, and finish, in my assessment this is not a 19th-century antique mirror, but a well-executed vintage decorative mirror from the mid-20th century.

Object: wall mirror
Style: Louis XV / Rococo revival
Material: mirror glass, presumably brass/bronze-colored metal, back panel
Estimated production period: ca. 1950–1970
Likely origin: France or Western Europe

Condition

Good vintage condition with normal signs of aging and use. The mirror glass shows light superficial marks and spots. The metal fittings show patina and localized discoloration appropriate to the age.

No obvious major cracks visible in the supplied photos. The backside and mounting are clearly photographed.

The photos form an integral part of the description.
