Description from the seller
Vertical bird's-eye view, with a striking framing audacity: a early 1950s American sedan, cream-white, with the front doors wide open like two wings, occupying almost the entire canvas. Leaning on the hood, facing each other, a man in a black coat and a flat-brimmed hat and a blonde woman in a light coat and blue scarf bend toward one another: he brings a match closer, she reaches for her cigarette. Semiotically, everything rests on this geometry of desire thwarted—the two symmetrical bodies, separated by the width of the hood, only touch through the flame; their cast shadows meet on the sheet metal before they do. The absolute black of the man's coat and the milky white of the woman's coat compose a film-noir contrast, with the blue of the scarf as the only chromatic breath. The plain gray ground, horizon and décor absent, abstract the scene and transform it into a theatre: nothing else to see but them and their car. Smooth finish, precise chromes, sober imprints, low-angle late-afternoon light.
The style of the artist Le Yack is a bold blend of pop art, street art, and classical and modern painting.
