Wooden model ship of HMS Beagle, dating to the early 19th century (circa 1820).
Description from the seller
This wooden sailing ship is skilfully crafted, with such exquisite detail that you’re likely to think you’re on the high seas too! The sails are in full flight, just as they would have been during the voyages of HMS Beagle, built in 1820.
It was while on board one of these survey expeditions between 1831 and 1836 that Charles Darwin developed his theory of natural selection, based on observations of the wildlife he encountered, particularly in South America and the Galapagos Islands.
Made from sustainably sourced wood and organic cotton, the impressive model ship is presented on a stand, making it easy to explore the rigging, Captain Robert Fitzroy’s cabin, the lifeboats, gunports and Royal Navy ensign.
Dimensions 46x8x35cm
