Description from the seller

A very RARE and beautiful and interesting "Guide to Peking" by W Hunter published by The Leader Peiping, no date but circa 1930. In soft paper covers size 18.5 by 13 cm. 68 pages plus 24 pages of fascinating contemporary advertising for local and international businesses. Includes a map and several black and white illustrations. The folding map has a key to 70 places of interest including palaces, temples, hotels, museums and hospitals. A detailed guide to the city, its shops, restaurants, arts and customs for English speaking visitors.
Contents: Map of Peking - A Historical Introduction - Points of Interest - Peking as an Art Center - The Chinese Theatre - Theaters of Peiping - Shops - Chinese Foods - Industries - Peiping Churches - Clubs - Women's Clubs - Chinese Festivals - Festival Calendar.
The original card front cover has gone and has been replaced by a clear tissue cover which has some text in Chinese characters; the owner’s name Gerald Fitzgerald and the same text appears above the index page. This might be an attempt at his name. Some rust to staples and age toning to edges. One page has a crayoned Chinese symbol above the text and a later paper spine has replaced the original. Good condition with these qualifications. A real oddity.
Hunter seems to have been both the publisher and the editor of The Leader
