Four-object lot of Siderite meteorites, an Octahedrite (coarse IIAB) from Sikhote-Alin, Oriental Siberia, Russia, weighing 142 g in total.
Description from the seller
I am selling a superb grouped lot of four authentic specimens from the famous Sikhote-Alin meteorite fall, which occurred on February 12, 1947 in eastern Siberia (Russia). It is one of the most significant falls of metallic meteorites in history.
Composition and lot details:
1. The main specimen (Large block):
Weight: 114 g
Characteristics: Magnificent solid specimen displaying deep regmaglypts (fingerprint impressions) shaped by atmospheric ablation.
Provenance: Manuel Fregez collection (original label provided).
2. The three small fragments (morphological diversity):
Weight: Includes notably a 28 g fragment.
Morphological variations: The lot groups the three major types characteristic of this fall:
Oriented (Sutton): Specimen that has retained a fixed trajectory, giving it an aerodynamic shape.
Regmaglypted individuals: Pieces marked by the pits of thermal fusion.
Shrapnel: Jagged fragments born from the meteorite exploding in flight.
Authenticity: Accompanied by the official certificate from "The Meteorite House" (Andreas Gren, Hamburg, Germany, IMCA member #3503) as well as the original collection labels.
Scientific information:
Name: Sikhote-Alin
Type: Iron-nickel Schist (siderite), coarse octahedrite of type IIAB.
Locality: Eastern Siberia, Russia.
Fall: February 12, 1947.
An ideal complete set for collectors wishing to acquire both a beautiful main mass and the diversity of textures of this legendary fall. The pieces are carefully packaged and shipped with all accompanying documentation."
