Set of 12 vintage crystal glasses with gilt finish, including six floral decanters about 19 cm high and six heraldic glasses about 18 cm high, each with clear crystal, engraved floral or heraldic motifs and delicate gold detailing, in very good, unused condition from late 19th to early 20th century Europe.
Description from the seller
Exceptional service of 12 antique glasses, in crystal engraved and gilded with fine gold.
– floral and heraldic decoration
Description:
Very beautiful set of 12 antique glasses, made of high-quality crystal, featuring a particularly refined decoration combining engraving, gilding and floral and heraldic motifs.
The lot is composed of two complementary series of 6 glasses, showing a high degree of manufacturing harmony, proportions and execution quality.
Composition of the service:
6 glasses with floral decoration
Height: about 19 cm
Outer rim diameter: about 7.2 cm
Weight: about 210 g per glass
Fill capacity up to the rim: about 20 cl
These large glasses feature a magnificent engraved design of flowers, foliage and garlands, accompanied by an elegant gilded border along the rim.
6 glasses with heraldic decoration
Height: about 18 cm
Outer rim diameter: about 6.8 cm
Weight: about 216 g per glass
Fill capacity up to the rim: about 15 cl
These six glasses are adorned in the center with an engraved heraldic shield, surrounded by a rich vegetal and ornamental decor, with garlands, foliage and gilding.
Heraldic decor:
The blazon shows a sautoir (diagonal cross) accompanied by four small floral motifs, a structure which most likely corresponds to the ancient arms of the Kerbouric family, an old Breton noble family.
The attribution of the blazon is proposed as probable, not as a certain provenance.
Quality of the glassware:
The glasses exhibit high transparency and a beautiful sheen, with magnificent reflections in light.
The sound of the glass is also very clear, which is an additional indicator of fine quality crystal glass.
The relatively heavy weight of the pieces, their transparency, their resonance, the delicacy of the engraving and the elaborate work on the stem and foot are coherent with an old quality production.
No clearly identifiable maker’s mark is visible under the feet.
Era:
Late 19th century – early 20th century, estimated based on the style of the decor, the engraving, the gilding, the shape of the feet and stems as well as the overall design of the service.
Condition:
Very good overall condition given the age. Never used.
The glasses show good transparency and gilding still well visible. The photographs show the overall condition of the pieces and are an integral part of the description.
The reunion of 6 floral glasses and 6 armorial glasses, with very similar proportions and the same type of manufacture, constitutes a particularly decorative and original ensemble.
This lot will suit both a collector of antique glassware and a collector of engraved and gilded crystal, as well as an enthusiast of heraldry and French heritage.
The 12 glasses are offered together to preserve the coherence of this set.
