Until his 23rd year, Dirk lived in Wechelderzande, the well-known painter’s village in the Kempen that has attracted many artists over the years. It was therefore no surprise that his very first exhibition took place there.
After several exhibitions with realistic oil paintings — including in Knokke, three times in Antwerp, Brussels, the De Mispel and De Schuur galleries in Lille, and as a participant in the Kunstroute of Groot-Lille — Dirk felt the need to break away from strict realism. He rediscovered that artistic freedom in freely working with acrylic paint.
