Description from the seller
RAMON AZUL, Mixed media, Acrylic painting · Digital painting · Hand-signed · 2026
She sleeps seated, folded in on herself like a round stone resting on fire. The whole body is blue — a dense, saturated blue, shaped by long gradients that let light glide over the shoulder, hip, knee raised against the chest. The arms cross and clasp the legs; the hands, with full, calm fingers, come together at the bottom of the composition and close the gesture. The black hair escapes to the left in a matte mass, worked in visible impasto that grips the canvas. The profile face, eyelids closed, straight nose, tightly closed mouth, has a Pre-Columbian sculpture as much as a mask: a serene gravity, without anecdote. Around it, a deep red fills the entire field, pure flat color, traversed at the bottom by a light band that provides a ground. A single orange dot, tiny, shines in the hollows of the hands like a fruit or a ember. Bottom right, a white handwritten cartouche signs the work. This figure celebrates retreat as strength and the body as a pure plastic sign, in the lineage of the Mexican school — Rivera, Tamayo, Zúñiga — and Picasso’s Blue Period.
Mixed technique: acrylic paint on a stamp print with pigmented ink, matte varnish spray.
Varnishes applied by hand for durable protection of the work.
Support: premium canvas stretched on a wooden frame, ready to hang.
Size: 40 x 40 cm.
Signed RAMON AZUL · Galerie Labo Joconde / Atelier Joconde · certificate of authenticity provided.
RAMON AZUL is one of the creations bringing together the artists Le Yack, Neo Pablo and Popsan within Atelier Joconde, a family studio where three sensibilities coexist: neo-realism, pop, and free figuration. Under the name RAMON AZUL, the Studio explores stylized nudity in the manner of Mexican modernity: monochrome bodies in saturated flat colors, solid and sculptural forms, pure colored backgrounds, grave serenity of faces.
RAMON AZUL gathers nude figures with colored bodies, blue, red, ochre, curled or entwined, where skin becomes a state of mind and the body, a pure plastic sign. The through-line: a dialogue between the heritage of the Mexican school and a contemporary pop gaze, where painterly matter enhances and transfigures the printed image.
Each work is a unique piece.
