Description from the seller
Atelier Joconde, Mixed media, Acrylic painting · Digital painting · Hand-signed · 2026
A musician stands there, decomposed into planes that refuse to close. The face reads twice: a wide, ochre and smooth face, eyelids lowered over the note he listens to, and a darker profile sliding to the side, as if listening moves the body. The right hand, the only area of flesh fully modeled, closes around the neck; the fingers press on the strings stretched as black-and-white threads that cross the canvas diagonally. Around, the curl of a cello in the upper left, the sound holes of an orange box, the yellow fretboard of a guitar at the bottom: three instruments nested within a single body. The green, olive, brick, and pearl-gray facets fit together like a checkerboard, punctuated by bright reds and chalky whites. Golden highlights rest on the edges of the volumes and on the body, lighting the geometry with a warm glow. At the bottom right, a light hat places its circle, and the painted monogram signs the work. This piece honors the musician who became his instrument, a direct lineage from Picasso and Braque’s Synthetic Cubism, from Juan Gris’s musicians and Léger’s colorful order.
Technique: mixed media — acrylic paint on pigment-ink print, matte varnish spray.
Varnishes applied by hand, for the glow of the golds and the durable protection of the work.
Support: premium canvas stretched on a wooden frame, ready to hang.
Format: 60 x 40 cm.
Signed Atelier Joconde · Galerie Labo Joconde / Atelier Joconde · certificate of authenticity provided.
MATEO GRIS is one of the creations bringing together the artists Le Yack, Neo Pablo and Popsan within Atelier Joconde, a family studio where three sensibilities coexist: neorealism, pop, and free figuration. Under the name MATEO GRIS, the Atelier revisits Synthetic Cubism and the legacy of Juan Gris and Picasso from the 1920s: female figures constructed in geometric planes and juxtaposed color facets, sculptural modeling, warm earth tones enhanced with cool accents, meditative serenity and the volupté of repose.
Each work is a unique piece.
