The author traces the origins of the Revolution by studying the imbalances of the Ancien Régime, the financial difficulties of the monarchy, the inequalities between orders, the influence of the philosophers of the Enlightenment and the new aspirations for liberty, equality and national representation -
He then describes in detail the summoning of the Estates-General, the formation of the National Assembly, the taking of the Bastille, the abolition of privileges, the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen, the administrative reorganization of the kingdom as well as the first reforms aimed at transforming the political and social structures of France -
