Born in 1908 in Lutry, Switzerland, Lucien Beyer grew up in an artistic environment shaped by the figure of his father, the ceramist Paul Beyer. Initially a designer for the silk industry, he quickly turned to painting and, at the beginning of the 1930s, joined the Lyonnais circle animated by Marcel Michaud. He became one of the active members of the group Témoignage, an avant-garde movement that gathered painters, sculptors, craftsmen and poets around a deeply humanist and spiritual vision of art.
Beyer participated in the group’s major exhibitions, notably the Salon d’Automne of Lyon in 1937 and the Paris presentations of 1938 and 1939, where his work was noted for its sensitivity, its sense of material, and its singular plastic language. His career is set in the artistic fervor of the interwar period, alongside figures such as Étienne-Martin, Manessier or Le Moal.
Lucien Beyer’s compositions captivate with their subtle balance between emerging abstraction and intimate resonances. His palette, often warm, reveals a quest for inner light, while his structured forms bear witness to a great mastery of drawing. Regularly present on the French market, his works enjoy constant interest from collectors, sensitive to the rarity and quality of his production.
