Piet Cottaar (1878–1950)

This concerns Petrus Johannes Maria (Piet) Cottaar, born in Delft in 1878 and died in Rotterdam in 1950. He was largely self-taught: he had no formal art education. He developed his painting technique himself and became best known for his still life flower paintings, especially poppies and sunflowers.

There is even an interesting family confusion: his son was also named Piet Cottaar, born in 1908 and died in 1984.
