LE GRAND BAZAR
Le Grand Bazar is a series of paintings that build on one another. Each canvas can live on its own, but it also forms part of a larger whole. Shapes, colors and certain characters pass from one painting to another, as if each work were a piece of a vast puzzle. Through this series, Skepa blends figures, symbols, objects and free forms into a spontaneous and lively universe, between abstraction and imaginary character. Le Grand Bazar plays as much with visual accumulation as with the very idea of collection. Each acquisition integrates the collector into a moving map where the works dialogue with each other despite the distance. The project thus transforms the private collection into a collective experience. Owning a piece of Le Grand Bazar is to hold a fragment of a global, ever-evolving work.
Skepa is a French artist born in 1978, painter and sculptor, co-founder of the BAFO movement. He graduated from the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Lyon and began his artistic practice with graffiti alongside Jone Hopper in the early 1990s. His work rests on a free and instinctive approach, nourished by urban culture and contemporary visual research. Over the years, his painting has evolved toward a rougher, more expressive handwriting, blending abstraction, free figuration, and the energy of gesture. Known for a unique and instantly recognizable universe, Skepa develops a powerful and vibrant body of work, regularly presented on the international art market.
