In Kobe De Peuter's work, intersubjectivity is central, not as an obvious human given, but as a mechanism that subtly yet powerfully shapes the contours of identity and the experience of reality. His oeuvre unfolds as a long-running exploration of how humans relate to their environment, and how that environment, in turn, structures our subjectivity. What begins as an introspective questioning culminates in a lucid dissection of the social and visual systems that shape our collective consciousness.

In the The Stage series (2007–2019), De Peuter investigates the public space as a symbolic stage: a place where the individual becomes visible, yet within pre-scripted boundaries. The architectural interiors that dominate this series suggest not only place and perspective, but also behavior and way of thinking. The space acts as a choirmaster: a visual language that whispers how we should behave, what we are meant to feel. As the series progresses, direct realism gives way to a more constructed, fragmented visual language, as if the artist aims to break open the facade itself. Yet the images remain recognizable; they appeal to a shared cultural memory, in which symbolism and structure mirror each other.

Kobe de Peuter is still active and has continued to develop his style. He is represented by several Belgian galleries, including recently Galerie 10a in Otegem and 3J Gallery in Knokke.

The sadly defunct Scheringa Museum for Realisme housed several works by Kobe de Peuter in its collection which, after its bankruptcy, were auctioned at Christie’s in Amsterdam.
