Description from the seller
Antique cameo in shell with a female figure and dove – Silver 925 – Late 19th / early 20th century
Elegant antique shell cameo, datable to the end of the 19th century and the first decades of the 20th, finely carved in relief and set within a refined 925 silver frame, with a punch mark on the pin stem, as documented in the photographs.
The cameo depicts a young female figure in profile, characterized by an elaborate hairstyle made up of soft locks, curls and small floral motifs. In front of the face appears a dove, an element that gives the composition a delicate and romantic character and makes the iconography decidedly more interesting than traditional cameos with a simple female portrait.
The natural contrast of the shell is very beautiful, with the white-cream relief rising against the warm, pinkish and slightly translucent background. The work shows notable attention to detail, especially in the definition of the hair, flowers, facial features and the dove's feathers.
The oval mounting is embellished at the front by a thin golden beaded motif that frames the cameo and further enhances its elegance. On the back there is the traditional pin system and a small ring that allows the jewel to be used also as a pendant, making it particularly versatile.
Dimensions: 38 × 30 × 14 mm
Total weight: 8.95 g
Materials: shell cameo and 925 silver
Era: late 19th – early 20th century
Type: brooch / pendant
Stamp: present on the pin stem, visible in the photograph
The piece shows normal and slight signs of time consistent with the era, maintaining an overall excellent aesthetic presence. The close-up photographs allow appreciation of both the cameo’s craftsmanship and the mounting and are an integral part of the description.
Interior design and value enhancement tips
In addition to being worn as jewelry, the cameo can become a refined decorative element: particularly evocative when displayed inside a small velvet frame, in a display cabinet, or atop a console with other small art objects and curiosities. It fits magnificently into classic, neoclassical and eclectic interiors, but can also create an elegant contrast in contemporary settings.
