Decorative polychrome plaster wall shelf from Lombardy, Italy, dating to 1940–1950 in Baroque style, measuring 25 cm wide by 12 cm deep by 12 cm high, in good condition with signs of age.
Description from the seller
Elegant decorative shelf in polychrome plaster, of refined ornamental design, characterized by a strong architectural and figurative component.
The structure features a projecting, modulated shelf with a shaped horizontal profile and a finish in antique gold tones, supported by an elaborate element of a volute and cartouche. In the center rises a delicate head of a winged putto, finely modeled and polychromed, with brown curls, a light complexion, and painted details to the eyes and lips. On the sides, broad feathered wings unfold, plastically modeled and painted in pale tones, lending the whole piece lightness and movement.
The decorative apparatus recalls the Baroque and Rococo repertoire, reinterpreted in an ornamental key, with a striking contrast between the gilded surfaces, the polychromy of the figure, and the darker tones of the underlying volutes.
A work of notable scenic impact, particularly suitable as a furnishing element, decorative accessory, or collectible piece, capable of imparting historical and theatrical character to the environment.
