Born in 1908 in Lutry, Switzerland, Lucien Beyer grew up in an artistic environment shaped by his father, the ceramicist Paul Beyer. Initially a designer for silk manufacturing, he quickly turned to painting and, at the beginning of the 1930s, joined the Lyon circle led by Marcel Michaud. He became one of the active members of the group Témoignage, an avant-garde movement that brought together painters, sculptors, artisans and poets around a deeply humanist and spiritual vision of art.
Beyer participated in the group’s major exhibitions, notably the Salon d’Automne in Lyon in 1937 and the Paris exhibitions of 1938 and 1939, where his work was noted for its sensitivity, its sense of material, and its singular plastic language. His career is set within the artistic ferment of the interwar period, alongside figures such as Étienne-Martin, Manessier, or Le Moal.
Lucien Beyer’s compositions entice with their subtle balance between emerging abstraction and intimate resonances. His palette, often warm, reveals a search for inner light, while his structured forms demonstrate a great mastery of drawing. Regularly appearing on the French market, his works enjoy sustained interest from collectors, sensitive to the rarity and quality of his production.
