Mirror - Wood - Baroque mirror

Baroque-style wall mirror, with a hand-carved wooden frame, black lacquered background, and polychrome decoration in gold tones (gold leaf), aged blue/gray and oxide red. The carved motif features leaves and wavy vegetal-inspired shapes (acanthus), very characteristic of Spanish or colonial Baroque carving.

The inner frame, narrower, combines a molding with repeated oval motifs (pearl) on an bluish background, surrounding the central rectangular mirror panel, smaller in proportion to the frame — a typical trait of antique pieces where the carved frame dominates over the glass.

The overall patina, with gilding worn to reveal the red bole and the underlying black in several areas, is typical of a piece with years of age and use.
