The rack is made of solid wood with a dark brown to black-brown patina and features a particularly open-work, hand-carved decorative center panel with a graceful leaf motif. The combination of robust construction and refined carving gives this katana stand an elegant appearance, while simultaneously providing a stable support for two Japanese swords.

According to provenance information, this stand originates from an old Japanese family possession. Large antique examples of this quality and size are nowadays rarely offered.

The stand, given its age of about two centuries, is in a reasonable to good antique condition. There are normal aging and use traces, including slight wear, scratches and small signs of use that fit an original Edo period object.
