Description from the seller
Popeye Soup – PVettese – Original Work – 61 × 50 cm
Popeye Soup is an original work by the French artist PVettese, created in mixed media on canvas, measuring 61 × 50 cm.
At the center of the composition, Popeye, an iconic figure of popular culture, embraces a towering Campbell’s soup can that literally overflows with spinach. The artist humorously subverts two instantly recognizable references from the collective imagination: the world of Popeye and the iconic Campbell’s can, itself a major symbol of Pop Art.
The scene takes place on a particularly dynamic background, composed of graffiti, splashes, projections, spontaneous lines, superpositions and textural effects. The intense greens of the spinach mingle with turquoise, deep blue, fluorescent yellow, orange and white, while the red Campbell’s can structures the center of the composition and creates a powerful visual contrast.
Between Pop Art and Street Art, the work plays with accumulation, color and the subversion of pop culture codes. The numerous manual interventions and the graphic details give the canvas a deliberately raw, lively, and contemporary aesthetic.
Technique and features of the work
The piece is entirely handmade in mixed media, through various layers, collages, materials, projections, superpositions and pictorial interventions.
The surface intentionally presents irregularities, roughness, reliefs, texture variations, and differences in thickness related notably to collages and the different layers of material. These characteristics are sought by the artist and are an integral part of the creative process and the artwork’s aesthetic.
They do not constitute defects or deterioration of the work.
With its 61 × 50 cm format, its particularly luminous colors and its immediately identifiable universe, Popeye Soup makes for a visually high-impact piece, suitable for a contemporary interior as well as a collection dedicated to Pop Art, Street Art and contemporary urban art.
PVettese has their works in numerous private collections around the world, notably in Europe, the United States, China, Mexico and Australia. The artist is listed in Akoun and Drouot and won the Public Prize in 2020.
The work is sold unframed.
It comes with its Certificate of Authenticity (COA), signed and blind-embossed by the artist.
The work is carefully packaged and securely shipped, with tracking and required signature.
