A very RARE and beautiful edition of John Keats's "Lamia".... First published in 1820, this tragic narrative poem tells how the supernatural being Lamia is transformed by Hermes from a serpent into a beautiful woman, exploring themes of love themes of love and the conflict between the ideal and the real. Octavo: [ii], 67, [3] pp. with a frontispiece, title page, dedication page, and 36 textual illustrations, vignettes, and plates, all photogravures by The Forbes Company after illustrations by Will H. Low. In the publisher's light green flat-weave cloth binding, designed by Edward S. Holloway, with a gilt-stamped medallion and dark green-stamped ruled borders, stylized floral devices, and titling on the front panel, and gilt-stamped titling and dark green-stamped ruled bands and floral devices on the spine. Spine lightly sunned. Inside fine clean condition. Externally light wear around edges and corners, shelfwear.
