Pop Toy Creation – PVettese – Original Work – 50 × 70 cm

Pop Toy Creation is an original work by French artist PVettese, created with mixed media on canvas, in the 50 × 70 cm format.

In this composition, the artist humorously and energetically revisits one of the most famous images in art history: Michelangelo’s Creation of Adam. The iconic gesture of two hands reaching toward each other without ever touching is here transposed into the contemporary toy universe, through two characters inspired by Lego figurines.

On the left, a character with brown hair reaches out toward a second figure on the right, depicted in a posture that directly recalls the composition of the chapel Sistine fresco. The juxtaposition of a major Renaissance reference with the instantly recognizable aesthetics of a toy creates a deliberate dissonance between art history and popular culture.

The characters occupy a large portion of the canvas and stand out against a deliberately raw and bustling background. Graffiti, handwritten inscriptions, splashes, projections, spontaneous lines and overlaps come together to deconstruct the classic aspect of the initial reference.

The palette is multicolored and particularly dynamic, mixing yellow, bright pink, orange, purple, green, turquoise, black, white and various more muted tones. The vertical projections and splashes reinforce the piece’s Street Art energy, while the numerous signs, words and traces give the surface the look of an urban wall progressively covered with graphic interventions.

With Pop Toy Creation, PVettese brings together several worlds: classical painting, toy culture, Pop Art and contemporary Street Art. The Michelangelo quotation remains identifiable, but is intentionally distorted and reinterpreted through the artist’s graphic language.

Technique and features of the work

The work is entirely handmade in mixed media on canvas, through multiple layers, collages, pictorial interventions, projections, graffiti, superpositions and textural effects.

The surface may deliberately present irregularities, roughness, reliefs, texture variations as well as differences in thickness related notably to collages, superpositions and different layers of material. These characteristics are sought by the artist and are an integral part of the creation process and the artwork’s aesthetics.

They do not constitute flaws, nor deterioration of the work.

The work measures 50 × 70 cm and is sold unframed.

PVettese has seen his works enter numerous private collections around the world, notably in Europe, the United States, China, Mexico and Australia. The artist is listed with Akoun and Drouot and won the Public Prize in 2020.

The work is accompanied by its Certificate of Authenticity (COA), signed and dry-embossed by the artist.
