At mid-height, a man and a woman float horizontally, bodies taut against each wall, joined by a kiss at the exact center of the void. Under them, a swarm of doves and pigeons spirals upward. Semiotically, the levitation dispenses the scene of any likelihood only to retain its structure: two worlds apart — the shadow and the light, here and facing — stitched together by a single gesture. The birds function as the chorus of this impossibility made natural. The palette, reduced to warm gold and Prussian blue, pushes the painting toward visionary romanticism; the brushwork, thick and rubbed, lets the grain of the canvas brush against the skies.
