Description from the seller
SCEVE (Maurice)
Delie, object of the highest virtue.
Paris, at A. Tallone, 1943,
1 volume large 8vo (25.5 x 18 cm), softcover with a dust jacket, slipcase and box, [230] pages (complete). Very good condition.
Preface by J. Porcher.
Edition limited to 400 copies. One of 365 on ivory vélin (no. 99).
Born around 1500 in Lyon, Maurice Scève leads a withdrawn life of a humanist devoted to poetry. An enigmatic figure, he transposes the Platonic message into the learned mystery of a love poetry which perhaps owes much to his liaison with Pernette du Guillet. Almost nothing is known of him, except that he died in Lyon around 1560.
Fine copy.
