Description from the seller
Rare Sample Box with Silkworm Cocoons - Giuseppe Ferretti Establishment - 1920s.
Splendid and excellent piece for a collection connected to industrial archaeology and the history of Italian weaving. It is an original sample box produced by the 'Stabilimento Bacologico Giuseppe Ferretti & C.' of Ascoli Piceno, one of the most important European centers for silkworm rearing in the first half of the twentieth century.
The box dates from the 1920s (the company is historically registered in 1927) and is in an exceptionally preserved state for its age.
It still contains the original silkworm cocoons (Bombyx mori), specifically the selected varieties 'White Chinese Hybrid' and 'Gold Chinese Hybrid'.
Internal details: inside the lid are the original inscriptions imprinted in gold. It also includes the era promotional card from the exclusive representative for Lombardy, the 'Cav. Vittorio Faccioli' based in Milan at 9 Via S. Vicenzino.
Original lid with elegant gold graphics in early Art Deco style, perfectly legible.
A rare item to find in this level of completeness.
Condition: Very good, structurally intact. Signs of time minimal and consistent with age (about 100 years). Please examine the photos carefully for details. Careful shipping with rigid protective packaging.
