Rare work by the Nobel Prize-winning painter
Dario Fo (Sangiano, 24 March 1926 – Milan, 13 October 2016) painted in mixed media on paper applied to a wooden panel.
The frame is original from the period.
The work was exhibited in 2012 at the Milan Palazzo Reale exhibition "Lazzi sberleffi e dipinti"
The work is registered in the Dario Fo archive.
Dario Luigi Angelo Fo (Sangiano, 24 March 1926 – Milan, 13 October 2016) was an Italian playwright, actor, director, writer, author, illustrator, painter, set designer and activist.
Famous for his theater texts of political and social satire and for his left-wing political commitment, with his wife Franca Rame he was among the exponents of Militant Red Rescue. He was the author of theatrical performances that make use of the comic idioms typical of Italian commedia dell'arte and that have been successfully performed around the world. As an actor, director, writer, set designer, costume designer and impresario of his own company, Fo was a man of theatre in every respect.
In 1997 he won the Nobel Prize in Literature with the following motivation:
«following the tradition of medieval jesters, he ridicules power, restoring dignity to the oppressed.»
