Antique plaster bas-relief titled Liebespaar from Germany, dating to the first half of the 20th century, depicting a romantically dressed couple in a massed wood frame with patinated surface and a three-mark signature impression on the right side, outer frame measuring about 15 × 13 cm and inner frame about 11.7 × 9.7 cm, in reasonable condition with patina.
Description from the seller
Antique bas-relief with a pair of lovers – patinated plaster/composition – solid wood frame
Charming old bas-relief depicting a deeply connected couple in historical attire.
The finely crafted relief shows a romantic scene in the style of Rococo or the 18th century. The physically modeled figures stand out subtly from the light, patinated background.
The relief is presumably made of fine mold gypsum or a similar mineral casting material. Particularly striking is the bold, darkly stained wood frame with a deeply chamfered profile.
The backside construction with an older metal hanger and the aging patina point to an older piece.
To the right of the figures there is an engraved or embossed mark consisting of three slightly converging lines with a possible crossbar. It could be a monogram, designer, workshop, or other insignia. A definite attribution is not currently possible.
Dating: probably first half of the 20th century
Material: probably patinated plaster/composition and wood
Motif: pair of lovers / romantic historical scene
External frame measurements: approx. 15 × 13 cm
Internal frame measurements: approx. 11.7 × 9.7 cm
Origin: probably Europe
The object is in an age-appropriate condition with patina and corresponding age- and usage traces. Please regard the close-up images as part of the condition description.
An unusual small collector’s piece with very decorative impact and a beautiful historical character.
