This artwork, an acrylic on canvas, is a vibrant exploration of jazz and Cuban music, blending the aesthetics of synthetic cubism with a visual language of mid-century modern. Through a palette of primary, saturated colors, the artist depicts a four-piece instrumental quartet (drums, double bass, saxophone, and piano) in a highly stylized and fragmented manner. The central figure, the double bassist with a light suit and hat, stands out from the rest, evoking the iconic figure of a troubadour from old Havana, possibly inspired by Compay Segundo, given his pose and attire. The composition does not follow traditional perspective rules; instead, it uses multiple simultaneous viewpoints and overlapped geometric planes to create a sense of rhythm and movement, reinforced by the repetitive patterns in the background. Beyond portraying a musical performance, the work expresses the energy, joy, and communal spirit inherent in the music, transforming the scene into a synesthetic visual experience where colors "sound" and shapes "dance." The painting celebrates the culture and soul of an era and a place, distilled into a symphony of forms and nuances.
