Description from the seller
Otto Pilny (1866–1936) – Magnificent Still Life with Pineapple, Grapes & Crystal Bowl
For sale is a masterfully executed, classic still life by the renowned Swiss orientalist and genre painter Otto Pilny (1866–1936).
The painting captivates with its enormous level of detail and a mood-evoking lighting characteristic of academic realism. At the center of the pyramidal composition is a splendidly detailed pineapple, flanked by lush grapevines, ripe peaches, and a finely cut crystal bowl. The delicate rendering of the light reflections on the grapes and the texture of the fruit testify to the artist's high level of craftsmanship.
Artist: Otto Pilny (1866–1936), signed in the upper right corner “OTTO PILNY”
Technique: Oil on wooden panel / painting board
Epoch: Historicism / late Biedermeier tradition (ca. 1890–1920)
Subject: Still life with pineapple, grapes, peaches and crystal bowl
Framing: Includes a suitable profiled wooden frame with fine patina
Condition:
Very good, age-appropriate overall condition with pleasant color depth. The paint layer shows a fine, age-related patina. The frame is also in good condition with slight signs of wear (see high-resolution photos).
About the artist:
Otto Pilny was a significant Swiss painter of Bohemian origin. He was the court painter to the Viceroy of Egypt and is internationally known mainly for his orientalist scenes and desert landscapes, which regularly fetch top prices on the art market. His rarer still lifes impress with the same technical precision and masterful command of light and shadow.
An ideal addition to any collection for lovers of classical still-life painting and high-quality Old Master tradition.
