Franz Laskoff - Caffè Costina's - 1970s

Fascinating vintage advertising manifesto dedicated to the famous "Caffè Costina's", originally conceived in the early 20th century by the eclectic artist of Polish origins Franz Laskoff and printed by the historic Officine Grafiche Ricordi of Milan. The work is a perfect example of Italian Art Nouveau / Liberty style. The composition masterfully plays with the color contrast of the bright orange background, on which stand the elegant silhouettes of the protagonists: a waiter in a long white tunic as he serves coffee on a tray and a refined lady of the upper bourgeoisie with a wide hat and a sumptuous blue skirt. A bold design, characterized by sinuous lines and solid blocks of color that recall the style of the great Parisian poster designers and the Jugendstil movement.
