Description from the seller
ONLY ONE IN THE WORLD EXISTS - EDITION 1/1
With this square-format work, Medsan reinterprets the sacred theme of the Virgin and Child by substituting Grogu — the “Child” from The Mandalorian series, aka Baby Yoda — for the Infant Jesus. Seated on the clouds, draped in pink and blue, crowned with a radiant sun, the Madonna tenderly holds the little green creature against her, while a crowd of winged cherubs surrounds them. The round work is set in a gilded frame adorned with sculpted putti; a cartouche bears the signature “メドサン” (Medsan).
The visual force of the composition lies in its pictorial treatment imitating Baroque religious painting: soft carnations, ample drapery, descending golden light and cherubs in Raphael/Murillo fashion. The antique workmanship, down to the craquelure and the trompe-l'œil frame, gives the scene the solemnity of a devotional altarpiece.
The impact of the piece rests on the irreverent tenderness of the détournement: the most endearing figure of pop culture elevated to the sacred Child, watched over by the Madonna and the angels. Medsan superimposes Christian iconography and the galactic myth in an image as gentle as it is mischievous.
A pictorial piece, gilded and full of wit, ideal for adding a classical, pop and genuinely original touch to a collector’s interior — a favorite with art lovers of both sacred art and pop culture.

About the Studio:
Atelier Joconde is a studio of artists united around a living and plural contemporary creation. Established as a true production space, the studio operates both in collaborative creation and in individual approaches, depending on projects and works. Atelier Joconde is also a family venture. Le Yack, a contemporary figurative painter, develops a narrative and introspective body of work with cinematic and realistic influences. Alongside him, Medsan, oriented toward pop art painting, explores color, modern iconography and visual culture. Finally, Neo Pablo pursues a more instinctive exploration, blending abstract art, art brut and figurative abstraction. Each work is conceived, realized and monitored within the studio, with a shared artistic standard and a distinct identity for each artist.
