Description from the seller

Heavy cast-iron Campanavaas – classic pedestal garden vase

A characterful cast-iron campanavaas with a pronounced classic form, inspired by the famous ancient vases from antiquity. This type of vase – recognizable by the elegant bell shape and sturdy pedestal – has been used since the 18th and 19th centuries as a decorative element in formal gardens, country estates, and parks.

The name Campanavaas refers to the renowned Warwick Vase, a monumental marble vase from Roman antiquity that was discovered near Rome in the 18th century and subsequently had a huge influence on European garden ornamentation. Since then, similar models were frequently produced in stone, terracotta, and especially cast iron.

This specimen features a powerful, classic silhouette with a broad flaring rim and a richly profiled transition to the base. The subtle relief structure along the rim and the fluted decoration around the underside give the vase an elegant architectural appearance.

The vase stands on a square base, which provides stability and a stately look. Thanks to the robust cast iron, the object has substantial weight and durability, making it excellent for use in garden, terrace, or entrance.

Inside there is a drainage hole, making the vase ideal for planting with flowers, boxwood, lavender, or small ornamental plants. The black finish gives the whole ensemble a timeless and classical appearance that pairs beautifully with both modern and historic gardens.

Because of its shape and material, this Campanavaas fits perfectly in a classic garden setting, but also works as an accent piece at an entrance, on a terrace, or in a conservatory. Even without planting, the object already forms a powerful sculptural element.

Good condition with signs of use appropriate to age and outdoor exposure. The cast iron is solid and equipped with a black protective finish. Interior shows natural signs of use.
