Chelyabinsk meteorite micro individuals - 15 g

The meteor that on February 15, 2013 approached Earth at 18 km per second and was about 20 m in size was strongly slowed down by the Earth's atmosphere. The energy released caused a massive explosion whose shockwave damaged 3,700 buildings. The meteor was torn apart, so a meteor shower of thousands of pieces rained down, often meteorites weighing only a few grams, but pieces weighing several kilograms were also recovered. The Chelyabinsk meteor fall will, due to its violence and its good video documentation, be found in every future literary meteorite work. Also, for the first time, sound recordings of a superbolide have been made. Chelyabinsk shows very different textures, the asteroid was not homogeneous. Beside bright unshocked rock some pieces display fine networks of shock veins, others consist entirely of dark melts and melt breccias that formed during earlier asteroid collisions.
