Artist's biography:
Mariano P. Navarro was one of the most frequent painters at this Municipal Hall of Exhibitions, showing here his progress in the study of the Burgos landscape in December 1947, an exhibition in which he also contributed a sample of decorative panels inspired by ancient Chinese art, and, after this occasion, he again delighted Burgos spectators in November 1959 and June 1961. Until 1964, the artistic scene in the city was similar to that of the previous period. The Exhibition Hall set up in the ground floor of the abandoned Principal Theater constituted the incipient solution granted since 1946 by the municipal authorities. However, even though this venue had been prepared on a provisional basis, in the early 1960s it was still the only space in the city where Burgos artists could make their work known to their fellow citizens. In November 1959, after having remained closed for a season, the Municipal Hall reopened its doors with an exhibition of the already veteran Catalan painter, settled in Burgos, Mariano P. Navarro. In this show one could see how the artist’s consolidated work “does not deviate from his path,” reappearing with his traditional landscapes and with some compositions of a classical stamp, whose success was assured in the city, which would be confirmed again with the presence of a large audience, this same Hall in June 1961.
