Julien t' Felt (1874–1933)

Julien t' Felt (1874–1933) was a prominent Belgian painter, poster artist, and lithographer. Born in Ghent on November 14, 1874, he was the youngest son of Charles t' Felt, founder of a printing house where Julien first drew on a lithographic stone at age five. He studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp from 1888 to 1894 under masters such as Charles Boom and Karel Verlat.

While his painting style remained traditional, t' Felt achieved significant success in applied arts, particularly in poster design. He debuted as a painter at the 1894 Antwerp World Exhibition. His favorite subjects included portraits and animals, with the Antwerp Zoo serving as a primary inspiration. During World War I, he fled to the Netherlands and England, painting war scenes and portraits of officers before returning to France and eventually Belgium. He died in Antwerp on February 14, 1933
