In this painting I tried to capture the expression of a girl’s face, aiming to render the intensity of the gaze, the softness, the elegance, that it encloses.

Stefano Russo is an Italian painter from Carrara, deeply tied to the tradition of figurative painting and the search for light. His research is inspired by the great masters of the 17th century, in particular Caravaggio, Rembrandt and Jusepe de Ribera, reinterpret­ing their chiaroscuro through a personal and contemporary sensibility.

His painting is characterized by strong light contrasts, intimate atmospheres, and a particular attention to the render­ing of faces and emotions. Through oil technique, Russo builds images through glazes and layers, seeking to unite the depth of traditional painting with his own vision.

His work arises from the meeting of light, matter and figure, with the goal of creating works capable of conveying emotion and, at the same time, preserving the strength and dignity of great classical painting.
