Description from the seller
Beautiful and atmospheric landscape by the Belgian painter Alfons (Alphonse) De Cuyper (1887–1950). De Cuyper was mainly active as a landscape painter and is known for his rural scenes, city views, and carefully built lighting effects.
In this work we see a tranquil rural landscape with grazing livestock, a few figures, and a small farm among the trees. The composition is characterized by a strong sense of depth: from the dark, richly vegetated foreground the eye is drawn toward the lighter landscape on the horizon. Especially the subtle play of light among the trees gives the painting its warm and romantic character.
The work is executed in oil on canvas and features fine details in the livestock, the vegetation, and the human figures. The painting is offered in a richly decorated, gilded classical frame that well suits the character of the piece.
The painting shows normal age- and wear-related signs appropriate to its age. The frame also shows local signs of aging. See the extensive photos for a good impression of the execution, condition, and frame.
An attractive and decorative work by an established Belgian landscape painter from the first half of the twentieth century.
