Tableau & Catawiki: The Eclectic Collector

A small masterpiece by Leo Gestel (1881-1943) from his early steps on the artist’s path. The work has been in the current owner’s possession for more than 30 years and originally comes from the collection of Professor Esser from Amsterdam.
A comparable painting by Rozen is in the Kröller-Müller Museum collection (Stamroos circa 1905).
It is signed by Gestel at the bottom right.
The art dealer issued a certificate of authenticity in 1993.
There is an appraisal from Sotheby’s of €15,000 (gallery price).

Een meesterwerkje van Leo Gestel (1881-1943) uit zijn eerste stappen op het kunstenaarspad. Het werk is meer dan 30 jaar in bezit van de huidige eigenaar en is van oorsprong afkomstig van de collectie van prof. Esser uit Amsterdam.
Een vergelijkbaar schilderij van Rozen is in de collectie Kroller-Muller Museum (Stamroos ca 1905). 
Het is door Gestel rechtsonder gesigneerd. De kunsthandelaar heeft in 1993 een certificaat van echtheid afgegeven. 
Er is een taxatie van Sotheby's;s van € 15.000,- (Gallery prijs).
