Description from the seller
Alfredo Grimaldi
Lago Maggiore
Oil on canvas, 40 × 30 cm
In this oil on canvas of 40x30 cm titled "Lago di Como", Alfredo Grimaldi interprets the famous Lombard lakeside landscape with an expressive style and an extraordinary richness of color. The composition is skillfully structured on a succession of perspective planes that confer great depth and breath to the scene.
In the foreground, exuberant vegetation serves as a natural frame: generous pink hydrangeas and lively countryside blooms in tones of red, yellow and violet come to life thanks to a rich and tactile brushstroke. The water mirror in the center captures the scene reflecting the sky's luminous nuances and the warm tones of the coastal architectures, creating a play of light and transparencies of great lyricism.
The inhabited area, laid along the shore, presents itself as a mosaic of buildings in pastel tones — pink, ochre and white — recalling the typical atmosphere of lake villages. In the background, the mountain range stands solemnly, rendered through fluid strokes of blue, indigo and violet that fade toward a sky etched with delicate pinkish stripes.
The work stands out for its dynamic use of color and for the artist's ability to transmit vitality and serenity of nature, making this painting a refined example of landscape painting with strong decorative and emotional impact.
