Antique brass plaque – Father Time with an hourglass and rooster – allegorical wall ornament

Notable and decorative antique brass ornament with a rich allegorical depiction surrounding time, the passage of time and the minutes ticking away.

At the center is a seated, winged male figure, recognizable as a depiction of Father Time. In front of him stands an hourglass, an age-old symbol of the passage of time and the transience of life. Above the scene gleams a rooster, traditionally associated with the dawning of a new day, vigilance and the rhythm of time.

The scene is rendered in openwork relief and is framed by a graceful oval border with a pearl motif. The detailed drapery folds, wings, hourglass and decorative surround give the piece a distinctly classical appearance.
