Nadal is a Spanish former tennis player. He is widely regarded as the greatest tennis player in history on clay courts and one of the greatest of all time. He is the second male tennis player with the most Grand Slam titles in singles, with 22, only surpassed by Serbian Novak Djokovic, with 24, and ahead of Swiss Roger Federer, with 20. He won the Australian Open twice, the Roland Garros tournament in fourteen editions (being the player who has achieved it the most times in the history of the tournament), Wimbledon twice and the US Open four times. He is in second place, behind Novak Djokovic (40), as the player with the most Masters 1000 titles in singles, with 36; and ahead of other famous players such as Roger Federer (28), Czech Ivan Lendl (22) and Americans John McEnroe (19), Jimmy Connors (17) and Andre Agassi (17).

He is the youngest male tennis player in history to achieve the Golden Slam in a career, which consists of winning the four Grand Slams and the Olympic gold medal over the course of a career (a feat shared only with Andre Agassi and Novak Djokovic). He is, along with Novak Djokovic, one of the two male players in the Open Era to have achieved the Career Grand Slam twice, which means winning at least twice each of the four Grand Slams over the course of a career. Moreover, both players are the only ones who have managed to win in the same year (Nadal in 2010, Djokovic in 2021) three Grand Slams on three different surfaces. Nadal is the player who has won the same Grand Slam and Masters 1000 tournament the most times since the Open Era began: Roland Garros and Monte Carlo (the former fourteen times and the latter eleven); and the first to win at least one Grand Slam title during ten consecutive seasons: from 2005 to 2014.
