Description from the seller

Main Details of the Work
Artist: Adolphe de Siebenthal (1895–1958)
Subject: Port view with sailing fishing boats (Marina)
Medium: Oil on canvas
Canvas dimensions: 50 x 61 cm
Framed dimensions: 80 x 68 cm
Signature: Signed "A. de Siebenthal" on the lower right on the front.

The Artist
Adolphe de Siebenthal (1895–1958) was a Swiss painter and teacher. An active figure in the Swiss art scene, he was a member of the Swiss Society of Painters, Sculptors and Architects (SPSAS). From 1930 until his death he participated in several exhibitions at the Musée Rath in Geneva. His oeuvre focuses particularly on landscape, characterized by luminous compositions, tranquil atmospheres, and controlled yet tactile brushwork, often favoring elegant cool tones.

Artistic Description and Subject
Bright and airy oil painting on canvas depicting a serene port view with several sailing fishing boats moored. The work stands out for a post-impressionist matrix in its painterly application, with confident, tactile brushstrokes that convey the maritime atmosphere with great freshness.

The artist expertly plays with a palette dominated by shades of blue in the water and sky, in harmonious contrast with the warm ochre and earthy tones of the large lowered sails and with the bright white of the hulls. The composition is balanced and conveys a deep sense of quiet, typical of the resting moments of the fishing fleet in coastal ports.

Signature, Inscriptions and Provenance
The work presents interesting historical and technical details that enrich its documentary value:
Front of the work: At the bottom right the artist’s autograph signature "A. de Siebenthal" is clearly legible.
Back of the work and Frame: On the back, the canvas is in excellent condition and well anchored to the frame. On the wooden frame are handwritten the figures "80 68" and "50 61", which precisely correspond to the external dimensions of the frame and to the net dimensions of the canvas.

Historic Label: On the frame there is a fine antique label: "GALERIE VOLTAIRE / J. et Ch. CHÉDEL / MANUFACTURE DE CADRES / 6 rue Voltaire Tel. 44 67 12 G", bearing witness to a prestigious and carefully executed historic framing done in Geneva.

Condition and Frame
The painting is in excellent conservation condition. The painted surface is solid, well preserved and retains the vivacity and brightness of the original colors, with no obvious color fade.

The work is enhanced by a substantial molded wooden frame in a cassetta (box) style, enriched with a gold external finish and a wide inner passe-partout profile in a light fabric (likely raw canvas or linen), which gives depth and breathing room to the painting. The frame shows only slight, normal signs of aging that do not compromise its excellent aesthetic rendering.

Important information for bidders
As a private seller, please read carefully a few notes to ensure an ideal transaction for both parties.

The frame: The frame visible in the photo is included in the lot as a pure gift from me and is not part of the sale; it does not determine the value and, due to its delicacy, is not insured. Consequently, any defects already present on the frame are not reported and any damage it sustains during transport will not be considered for claims or returns.

Shipping and Customs notes: The item will be shipped from Geneva, Switzerland. For this reason, delivery times to EU countries might be slightly longer than usual due to standard customs procedures. Also note that, since Switzerland lies outside the EU customs area, import duties, local VAT and customs charges are the buyer’s responsibility and will be collected by authorities in your country at delivery. I advise you to inform yourself in advance to avoid surprises.

Pickup and Packaging: As an alternative to shipping, if you have the possibility, in-person pickup in Geneva is always my preferred option and I strongly recommend it, as it eliminates shipping costs and ensures maximum safety for the work. If shipping is chosen, I will do my best to pack it to protect the frame during transit.
