Description from the seller
THEATRUM SANITATIS – LIBER MAGISTRI
Ububchasym de Baldach – Codice Casanatense 4182 from the Casanatense Library in Rome
Franco Maria Ricci, Milan, 1991-1992 – Complete work in 6 volumes
Prestigious and refined six-volume edition published by Franco Maria Ricci, devoted to the famous Theatrum Sanitatis, the medieval codex of medicine and natural sciences preserved at the Casanatense Library in Rome.
The work reproduces in full the iconographic patrimony of Codice Casanatense 4182, an extraordinary fourteenth-fifteenth century manuscript linked to the tradition of the Theatrum Sanitatis, in which the knowledge of medieval medicine is illustrated through an exceptional apparatus of miniatures.
The FMR edition of 1991-1992 constitutes one of the most elegant publications dedicated to the codex: the six volumes collectively contain 208 color plates, reproduced through precious applied plates, which document the miniatures related to foods, their properties, life practices, and the medical-naturalistic knowledge of the era.
