A large 17th‑century brass offering dish, circa 50 cm in diameter, depicting Adam and Eve by the Tree of Knowledge, from Northern Europe, hand‑forged and chased with patina.

Impressive and exceptionally large antique brass offering or alms plate, Northern Europe, 17th century.
Diameter about 50 cm.
The deeply embossed central medallion depicts the Biblical scene of Adam and Eve beside the Tree of Knowledge in Paradise. The two naked figures stand on either side of the central tree and are surrounded by intricately worked leaves, fruits and vegetative motifs.
The scene is rendered in strong relief in the brass and is surrounded by multiple concentric decorative bands. Around the central tableau there is finely punched decoration, while the wide outer rim features a repeating pattern of elongated leaf- or almond-shaped ornaments, alternated with floral and geometric motifs.
The entire plate is hand-made using traditional techniques of raising, hammering, chasing and punching. The back clearly shows the traces of these old manual metalworking methods.
This type of large brass plate was produced from the late Middle Ages into the Renaissance, particularly in Nuremberg, and could serve both ecclesiastical and decorative purposes. Adam and Eve beside the Tree of Knowledge is among the well-known Biblical scenes on such historic plates.
