Seascape 'Blue Calanque' - 2026
A Mediterranean coastal landscape depicting a cove or bay lined with stylized umbrella pines, opening onto a calm sea where two sailboats are moored.
The scene is framed by rocks and trees on either side, creating a natural window to the sea and the horizon.
The composition is very balanced, guiding the eye from the sandy foreground to the sailboats at the center.
Dominated by an intense ultramarine and cobalt blue for the sky and water, contrasted by warm sandy, ochre, and brown tones for the coast and rocks. A few red accents on some trunks provide a direct visual rhythm.
The work uses flat color fields outlined by dark, crisp contours. This technique recalls the Pont-Aven School (Gauguin, Sérusier) as well as Fauvism for the boldness of color.
The forms are simplified to the maximum. The pine canopies resemble parasols or polished pebbles, while the rocks are cut into facets almost cubist.
The painting conveys a sense of serenity, calm, and timelessness. The rigor of the line and the flatness of the forms translate a reinvented Mediterranean landscape, focused on the harmony of lines and the strength of the color fields.
