Description from the seller
Author: Mario Silano
Title: Look of Light and Matter
Medium: Oil on canvas
Dimensions: 40 x 30
Mario Silano presents a portrait of extraordinary expressive intensity and technical mastery. The composition is dominated by the close-up of a young woman with an harmonious face, skillfully framed by a light veil.
The work stands out for a refined stylistic contrast: on one side, the detailed and soft rendering of the flesh, where the rendering of the penetrating gaze and vivid lips reveals a high level of figurative control; on the other, the material and gestural handling of the ochre-gold background and the drapery, characterized by pigment-rich brushstrokes and plastic spatula strokes.
The warm amber tones spread an almost aureolic atmosphere that warms the figure, finding a chromatic counterpoint in the cool, gray and bluish shades of the veil’s folds. Light, a key structural element, defines the volumes of the face and lights up a bright spot in the model’s eyes, creating a hypnotic and direct dialogue with the observer.
Silano manages to combine the formal elegance of the classical portrait with the vitality of contemporary painting, offering a work of strong visual impact and intimate emotional vibration.
